About
I was born and raised in Silicon Valley, California and graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in Media, focusing on digital video and web development. I had worked in the design field throughout my undergraduate career. After a year of living abroad split between London and Montreal, I returned to California to find design jobs had dried up when the dot com boom went bust.
I fell into Mortgage Banking but after 2 years working on both the commercial and residential sides for banks like Wells Fargo, I made a move to the insurance industry. I started as an Administrative Assistant at Blue Shield but later became a Junior Business Analyst within a Change Management project. I learned the intricacies of affecting change within an organization and walked away from the experience realizing that my background in design encouraged me to approach business from different angles. Having always had an interest in business, it came to me very easily. I became a business consultant and worked for Wells Fargo and Cisco Systems before deciding to return to school to get my Masters.
The real challenge was whether I would pursue an MBA or an MFA. However, from the start of my career in banking to moving into business consulting, I saw how design and technology within business systems, information architecture and more importantly the ability of said technology to affect change within an organization paving the way for companies to be more competitive in an increasingly challenging global business enviroment.
I believe, that design and technology is a vital player in business strategy for the world of tomorrow. It has become my all-consuming passion to see that through and to focus on that within my thesis project next year.
